Authenticity of Marukyu Koyamaen Products

At Tealife, we’ve always believed in making authentic Japanese tea more accessible in Singapore. For over six years, we’ve worked directly with several tea producers, including Marukyu Koyamaen, one of the most respected tea producers in Uji, Kyoto. Our partnership is built on trust and a shared commitment to quality, and we take great pride in bringing their matcha to tea lovers here.

But recently, we’ve seen a disturbing trend. The rise of counterfeit Marukyu Koyamaen products, especially on Singapore’s online marketplaces, has been extremely concerning. It has been an issue for a while, but the amount of recent exposure of these fraudulent products have been quite alarming. Many of our customers have raised this concern to us, and we thank you for doing so.

Shopee, in particular, has been flooded with suspicious listings. These sellers often advertise their products as “imported from Japan” while quietly stating that the place of origin is a province in China. The pricing is another red flag, as genuine matcha from Uji cannot be sold at such low prices in such abundance, especially when Marukyu Koyamaen themeselves are facing tight supply constraints.

This issue has been troubling not just for us, but also for Marukyu Koyamaen themselves. The company has already issued an official statement warning consumers about the problem. As their authorized distributor in Singapore, we want to echo their concern and urge everyone to stay vigilant when buying matcha online.
