Bowl Type

Mino Chawan

  • Mino ware (美濃焼, Minoyaki) is one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions, with over 1,300 years of history in Gifu Prefecture.

  • It is known for its variety of styles, durable clay, and unique glazes.

  • Each piece is handmade and kiln-fired, so no two bowls are the same.

  • These variations reflect the Japanese idea of wabi-sabi, which means beauty in imperfection.

  • Mino chawans are designed for both beauty and use. Their wide bases make whisking easy, while their walls keep tea warm.

  • Today, Mino ware balances tradition and innovation, offering bowls that are both practical and deeply expressive.

  • Manufactured in Japan
Maintaining your ceramic (earthenware) Matcha Bowls
  • Before first use, we suggest soaking in lukewarm water to help prevent tea stains and discoloration of the bowl.
  • After use, clean with dish soap, dry thoroughly, and store. Please make sure you dry properly. Due to its absorbent nature, insufficient drying can cause mold, stains, and odors.

  • Due to the coarse texture of the clay particles used, avoid dragging these ceramic (earthenware) products across surfaces such as tables. (Dragging may scratch the table surface.

  • As they are not made from fireproof clay, do not place them directly over an open flame. They are not oven-safe.

  • Because ceramic (earthenware) products are absorbent, do not use them in the microwave.
