May 2025 updates

First Flush Leaves for the 2025 Season in its way!

May is a special month in the world of Japanese tea - it's when harvesting the first flush tea leaves happens! We'll have a fresh crop of Japanese tea very soon for your tasting pleasure.

Now, how much this helps the Matcha powder scarcity problem is yet to be seen. With the global Matcha demand being very high and Japan having emptied its multi-year reserves of tea leaves in just one year, I'm not 100% confident that the supply will be enough to resolve the issue. My sense is that it's not. We'll keep you posted on any developments on that front.

Some new Hario water bottles joined Tealife!

Some new additions to our Hario collection! As shared in last month's updates, we've gradually added Hario's tea products to our shop. I'm sure many of you know, but Hario produces very thoughtfully designed products using very high-quality materials at a very affordable price. We've been using them for years before we started to sell them in our shop, and we're really delighted to do so!

This time around, we added some Wine bottle-shaped cold-brew bottles. They have built-in filters at the cap of the bottle, so all you have to do is drop in the tea leaves and add water. It's really easy to use, and are great for infusing cold-brew tea, such as Sencha or Tamaryokucha. If you're in the Japanese Tea Travelers, program, we usually send out a sachet of Japanese tea that's the perfect size to drop into this bottle! It's another fun way to enjoy the program.

We also added the "Creamer Z," which is a milk frother but also a great tool for mixing Matcha as well. It's a powerful mixing tool that I personally use for many uses as well. Do take a look!

Japanese Tea Travelers Program for May

This month, we'll be featuring two of our Taniguchien favorites for our Japanese Tea Travelers program. These two teas from Kyoto, Japan, won't be new to our long-time members, but it is certainly never a mistake to revisit them!

We'll open the Japanese Tea Travelers program Momiji tea with the Karigane Genmaicha by Taniguchien. Taniguchien uses a mix of twig tea with their Genmaicha (which is brown rice tea) to add a unique twist to its flavor. It's a rather uncommon mix, but it's a great combination of the warmth of the roasted brown rice and the freshness of the tea.

For our Sakura members, you'll also receive the Gyokuro Umejirushi from Taniguchien. The Gyokuro is the highest grade of Japanese loose-leaf green tea, and the "Umejirushi" is a seal of quality. This is great as an espresso-like shot, but it also makes a fantastic cold brew, especially when seeped in ice-cold water for a long infusion time.

More new products to come!

Yes, we'll continue to expand our selection of tea products, with more Hario products along the way!

Aside from that, we apologise that we have so many items out of stock.

Our next batch of Marukyu Koyamaen should be coming in this Friday (the 9th) although this may end up being early or late depedning on the shipment. We did open pre-orders today, so for those of you who are interested, I urge you to purchase early. These days our Marukyu Koyamaen products would sell aout sometimes during pre-orders.

Our Yamamasa-Koyamaen, Hoshino Seien, and Kaga-bou Houjicha will take a while to re-stock. As wil the Suikaen bamboo tea whisks. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding while we continue to do everything we can to get new stock.
